Click to Login to the CanBUG Community SpaceCanBUG is a group promoting collaboration among Blackboard uses, instructors, instructional administrators, educational administrators, administrators, and developers throughout Canada. Can BUG was founded in July 2007 by a cross-Canadian collection of kindred spirits responding to the leadership demonstrated by Bonita Bray (University of Alberta) at the BbWorld'07 Conference. On Friday, February 29, 2008 the CanBUG Founders hosted a successful online "Day of Dialogue." Numerous hour-long sessions of common interest with speakers from across the country attracted more that 160 participants throughout the day.

To stimulate dialogue, we have been looking for kindred spirits to share their expertise with others. To that end we have been hosting online webinars every other Thursday. For those involve in SWAT, you might note the similar Thursday time frame.

Please join us and share our events with your colleagues. Although most events allow for guest access, some will not. Send a note to phil.ohara@dal.ca if you would like to have an account created for your use during these closed sessions.

3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time Net-Gen? Not So Much: Investigating Claims of the "New" Learner Wendy Burton - University of the Fraser Valley
Much has been written about the new “Net Generation” learner and his or her facility with web 2.0 technologies. In the online learning environment, the spectre of these high-tech, tech-savvy, wired learners drives much of what is considered good education into the background in favour of the latest in educational technology. Many who teach online in adult and higher education are beginning to question the research that “tells us” who and how these young learners learn. This paper will review the literature, offer a critical perspective, and present conclusions based on analysis of learner response to learning situations supported by educational technologies over the past five years.
